Very little is known about Cheshire. Research has come up with a vessel which used to be called Cheshire but was sunk off southern Ireland, many miles from the wreck we dived south of Torbay. This was one of Nick Brights marks. Nick is a crab fisherman and for a few years ran a dive boat out of Paignton in the UK.
Nicks was always wondering what it was, on the seabed, that was snagging his pots. The best way to find out was to buy a dive boat and send down divers to find out!! Teresa and I were lucky to discover Nick when he first started chartering. We booked Nick several times a year and dived some fantastic (and some not so fantastic) virgin wrecks. Nick is now back to full time crab fishing. I hope he’s keeping record of those new snags!
The viz on that day wasn’t as good as the usual conditions off Devon's shores. The wreck appeared to be a medium sized freighter. I finned to the usual resting place of the mast bell but nothing was there so started nosing around below decks. Click on the projector to see what I found.
